What If You’re Already an Artist and Don’t Know It?

Let’s get something out of the way:

You don’t need a degree, an Instagram portfolio, or a gallery show to call yourself an artist.

You don’t even need to finish projects (yup!).

If you create things with your hands, your heart, your imagination; you’re already doing it.

But here’s the catch: so many people don’t see it that way.

They’ll say things like:

“I’m not really an artist, I just like making stuff.”

“I only do it sometimes, when I have time.”

“It’s not good enough to count.”

Sound familiar?

Here’s the truth: Art isn’t about talent. It’s about expression.

The Myth of the “Real Artist”

We’ve been taught that being an artist looks a certain way:

  • Full-time painter.
  • Trained in Fine Arts.
  • Always creating masterpiece-level work.

But that’s not the whole story.

You’re an artist if:

  • You doodle between the pages of papers.
  • You get excited about new markers.
  • You arrange your living room or bedroom like a set design project.
  • You express emotion through colours, textures or handmade things.
  • You made your own greeting card instead of buying one.
  • Plus more!

See? You’re in. You’ve been in!

Even if your art is messy. Even if no one ever sees it. Even if it’s “just for fun.”

Signs You’re Already an Artist (But Didn’t Realize)
  • You get excited in the art and craft aisle.
  • You see random shapes in clouds, spills, or tile patterns.
  • You hoard jars, fabrics, or paint “just in case.”
  • You process emotions by making something.
  • You feel better after a creative session, even if it’s a small one.

If this is you, welcome to the club! No ID badge required.

What if You Let Yourself Claim It?

Here’s your permission slip:
You’re allowed to say it.
You’re allowed to own your creativity, no matter how it looks.
You’re allowed to be proud of the art you make, even if it lives in a drawer or gets painted over next week.

So the next time someone says,

“Oh wow, you’re really creative!”

Don’t brush it off. Don’t shrink.

Try saying this instead:

“Thank you. I’ve been leaning into my art more lately.”

Because the moment you give yourself that permission?

That’s the moment you become an artist out loud.
You Don’t Need to Be “Great” to Be Creative.
You just need to be you.

And at Artzmania, we’re here for all the artists:

The casual ones.

The messy ones.

The weekend creators.

The ones rediscovering creativity in their 30s, 50s, or 70s.

No matter how you create, we see you.
